Our philosophy has evolved from a traditional executive search firm to a model of teaching and consulting. We believe the more effective an organization’s internal recruitment program, the less they have to rely on outside help from agencies. The results are better hires, improved job satisfaction and improved physician retention.
Are we anti-search firm? No. Not even close. There are a whole host of reasons you may need the help of outside firms, but without a solid internal program, the outcomes will be left more to chance.
We continue to conduct a limited number of executive searches. (1-3 annually) they are usually the result of a consulting engagement. We feel that by keeping our hands in the actual recruiting of physician executives, we keep a pulse on trends nation-wide and it helps us test and coach more effectively throughout the recruitment process with our clients.

I have enjoyed my career in the physician recruitment industry since starting in this field, let’s just say, many years ago. Most recently I built and led the permanent placement division for VISTA Staffing Solutions. We placed physicians, physician executives and advanced practitioners in permanent positions nation-wide.
Prior, I built and led the physician, physician executive, advanced practitioner and nurse recruiting department at the Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA. Along with leading the department, my direct recruitment responsibilities included Geisinger’s executive recruitment initiatives. During my tenure, I placed Physician Executives at every level in the organization with total numbers exceeding 100 placements. I also reduced physician turnover from 10% to less than 4% through developing one of the country’s first formal physician retention programs. My experience also includes the placement of other non-physician executives. These included department VP’s, CFO’s and Medical Directors and utilization reviewers for Geisinger’s own health plan.
As a past president of the Association For Advancing Physician And Provider Recruitment (AAPPR), formerly ASPR, I have been an active speaker for ASPR’s national educational conference. Our first Board of Directors meeting led the development of ASPR’s fellowship program geared at developing the next generation of physician recruitment leaders. Consulting with departments across the country has allowed me to help develop staff, systems, and tools resulting in a better quality and quantity of placements.
My success in the in-house physician recruitment industry has been featured in publications such as Modern HealthCare (cover story), Health Care Financial Management’s monthly journal, Modern Physician, the New England Journal’s Recruiting Physicians Today and The Physician Executive (ACPE).
